Conference Champions are proud to showcase Hull as a world class conference destination to their contemporaries; they are passionate about raising the profile of their field of work, enhancing the reputation of their organisation and contributing to the city’s economy.

If organising a conference or event seems a bit daunting or you would like some help and advice regarding the practical elements of hosting a conference, then the Hull Conference Champions initiative offers the support necessary to enable individuals to host their conference in Hull. How it works

The Conference Champions Programme is a partnership between Hull & East Yorkshire Conferences and representatives of local professional and academic institutions.The aim is to work with interested representatives who can directly or indirectly influence decisions on where national or international conferences are held.
 
The Hull & East Yorkshire Conferences team provide free conference organising support. Our free services help minimise the event organiser's workload, help make holding a conference here successful and stress free, and enhance your delegate's experience of the area.

Jurismus Meeting
2.5 days - 40 attendees

 

 

 

Jurismus is the network for young Eurojuris lawyers across Europe, Mark attracted the Jurismus Meeting to Hull in 2016.
 
The meeting offered an interesting programme of plenary sessions at the Royal Hotel as well as a mock trial of a fictional court case held in the Council Chamber of the Hull Guildhall.
 
Complementing the professional programme was a host of social activities to showcase Hull and East Yorkshire at its very best, with an afternoon clay pigeon shooting, fancy dress ball at Cave Castle Hotel and a guided tour of Hull with first class tour guide Paul Schofield.
 

 

 

 

 

 


 
 
 
Delegates also got the opportunity to experience dinner at The Deep home to over 3,500 fish and sample some of Hull’s favourite old town establishments with receptions at Kardomah 94, Silvers Bar and Thieving Harry’s.

BIAZA Annual Conference
2.5 days - 110 attendees
 
BIAZA Learning and Presenters’ Conference
 2.5 days - 95 attendees

 

 

During 2017 Katy hosted two British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) conferences at The Deep. BIAZA is the professional body representing the best zoos and aquariums in the UK and Ireland. Their members are committed to be at the forefront of conservation, education and research.
 
As well as discussing crucial conservation topics, BIAZA’s annual awards ceremony was also held as part of the BIAZA Annual Conference. Both conferences gave delegates the opportunity to explore Hull’s Museum and Cultural Quarters with events at Hull Streetlife Museum and Butler Whites.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Katy has also attracted the 33rd European Union of Aquarium Curators (EUAC) Conference to Hull, which will be held over 4 days during October 2018 in two main locations; The Deep and the new DoubleTree by Hilton Hull. This is the largest annual gathering of European public aquarium professionals.

British Chess Championships11 days - 1700 attendees

 

 

 

Stephen was key to hosting a hugely successful British Chess Championships in Hull in the Summer of 2018. The tournament open to juniors and seniors also attracted several Grand Masters to take part at Championship HQ Hull City Hall.
 
For those participants arriving via train there was a special welcome provided by a team of Hull Volunteers in their vivid blue uniforms. Throughout the tournament a tourist information point was available in the Hull City Hall.
 
The eleven day event offered a vast social programme from family activities at The Deep and pizza making at Ask Restaurant to a chess evening at Napoleons Casino. There was an opportunity for attendees to explore Hull on foot with a variety of guided walks covering Hull’s history, pubs and ghosts.

 

 

 

 

 

 
 
 
The Yorkshire Brewing Company produced a specially brewed beer for
the tournament - Grandmaster Ale.
 
One of the more quirky aspects of the championships saw Queen Victoria Square turned into a giant chess board with local volunteers participating as live chess pieces.

British Shakespeare Association
3.5 days - 167 attendees

 

 

 

The British Shakespeare Association is a professional association and registered charity devoted to promoting the study, practice and enjoyment of Shakespeare throughout the United Kingdom.
 
Ann was successful in bidding to bring the 7th Biennial British Shakespeare Conference to the University of Hull in a very significant year as 2016 was the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
 
Conference attendees heard from keynote speakers from as far afield as New Zealand and the programme attracted an international audience from across Europe as well as delegates from Australia, Japan and India.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Delegates dined with sharks at The Deep, enjoyed receptions at the brand new £28m University Library and the Hull Guildhall, where world renowned Shakespearean scholar Sir Stanley Wells, former son of Hull, was honoured by the Lord Mayor of Hull. Delegates were also entertained at Hull Truck Theatre with a special performance by international comedy theatre company Spymonkey.
