Seabirds and Shoreline Treasures
Between April and July, Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough Cliffs come alive with the sights, sounds and smells of over 250,000 seabirds.
Booming Bitterns and awesome Avocets
Bitterns, bearded tits and marsh harriers all make their homes in the reedbeds at Blacktoft Sands, alongside the resident conservation grazing Konik ponies.
Wetland Wonders
Nestled in the heart of the countryside, Tophill Low is a haven for otters, water voles, kingfishers and barn owls. Take a picnic and while away the day exploring the 13 wildlife viewing hides which offer great views over the lakes or tread your path amongst orchid meadows and woodland glades.
On top of the Wold
Having successfully colonised the Yorkshire Wolds, red kites are a regular sight on the skyline. Underfoot, the chalky soil is perfect for wilflower displays, at their most impressive in June and July.
Migration Miracles
With staggering numbers of birds stopping off on their annual migration each spring and autumn, and overwintering mega flocks of waders, Spurn really is a 'must visit' for any wildlife lover.
Spot puffins gannets between April and July from the cliff edge viewing platforms, and visit the Seabird Centre at this famous nature reserve.
This large freshwater lake attracts a huge variety of wildlife throughout the year, including the notable little gull roost in autumn.
The largest tidal reedbed in England, spot bitterns, bearded tits and marsh harriers all year round.
Kiplingcotes Chalk Pit nature reserve lies on this ten mile footpath between Beverley and Market Weighton, great for orchids and butterflies in midsummer.
Look for puffins, guillemots, razorbills and kittewakes between April and July and explore the sandy coves, sea caves and rockpools.
Very close to Spurn, a great spot for roosting waders in winter and breeding waders in summer, along with the neighbouring rare little tern colony.

Yorkshire’s own ‘land’s end’, enjoy the 128ft lighthouse, miles of sandy shore and 4x4 wildlife safaris.
Two large reservoirs attract huge number of overwintering waders and waterfowl, whilst otters, kingfishers and barn owls live in surrounding marshland, reedbeds, woodland and grassland.
A mosaic of wetland habitats with great wildlife all year round. Breeding avocets in summer and huge flocks of overwintering birds.
Local nature reserve is a haven for people and wildlife with woods, meadows, ponds and cliffs with views over the River Humber and the Humber Bridge.
